Democrats target 30 House Republicans on immigration

Democrats target 30 House Republicans on immigration

Two points to bring up: number one, as the Republican Party hasn't moved yet, I doubt very highly that a memo is going to do anything. Two, the NRCC is accusing us Democrats of playing politics. But they have it wrong: by insisting on immigration reform, we could be taking a powerful issue off the table.  As long as they refuse to move, we have something to use to hit them. And we won't hesitate. The real political players, the real hustlers and con men, are members of the Republican Party. For the good of our country (something they wouldn't know if it bit them in the ass), we have to pass immigration reform. Even if it means losing a campaign issue. Real people are counting on us.

Michael Bloomberg plans $50M gun effort

Michael Bloomberg plans $50M gun effort

Thank God (or whatever being you pray to) that someone is taking on the NRA. And it's just like the mayor said: there's no complete ban on guns. You'll still have guns for self defense, hunting, target practice. What we stand for is common sense, like background checks. But the NRA is completely against background checks or any other common sense measure that might cut down on the dead and dying. They have completely bamboozled the people into thinking they are headed for a dictatorship, when nothing could be further from the truth. And why? There's money in it, for one. Money and power corrupt, and the NRA has too much of both. I encourage all people to check out Mayor Bloomberg's groups, and to donate time or money. We can't afford not to take a stand.

Nancy Pelosi: Republicans won’t push immigration because of race

Nancy Pelosi: Republicans won’t push immigration because of race

I think that's quite possible. This is a group that, where minorities are concerned, have had great difficulties. It's been that way ever since the civil rights movement. So what's next? Who knows. Here's my idea: "amnesty"for the immigrants who crossed, provided that they are: willing to pay back taxes, contribute through work or military service,  have no criminal record or have committed minor infractions (no violent crimes or worse), as well as a special track to citizenship. Immigrants with kids need to be kept with them so that someone can keep an eye on these kids, who would technically be citizens. The border will need to be secured via the National Guard and/or the U.S. Military. A fence is not feasible as they will either go under or around. The only hope there is to have a full navy deployment around us, a sure disruptor of sea trade. For the poorer immigrants who can't get a lawyer or other fair representation, we need to appoint someone who will genuinely take an interest in the case. We may also want to expand their access to college and issue work visas at graduation, so that when they are trained, immigrants may be able to join the Defense Department or any other research area. If anyone knows some other holes in our system, please let me know.
